Editorial Policy
This page sets out the standards every piece of content on SnusMarket is held to: who decides what gets covered, where our facts come from, what separates our editorial judgement from our commercial arrangements, and what happens when we get something wrong.
It is a working document rather than a statement of intent. If you find content on this site that does not meet the standards described here, that is an error on our part and we want to hear about it, the address for that is at the bottom of this page.
Editorial Independence
No brand, manufacturer, or retailer has any influence over what we publish.
Specifically, and without exception:
- No brand sees a review before publication
- No brand has approval rights over any content, or the right to request changes after publication
- No brand can purchase a ranking position, a score, a toplist slot, or inclusion in a buying guide
- No commercial relationship, affiliate or otherwise, is a factor in how a product scores or where it places
- We do not publish sponsored posts, paid guest articles, or advertorial content of any kind
SnusMarket earns revenue through affiliate commission. The short version is that commission rates are not an input into any editorial decision, and where a product we rate highly is unavailable through any partner we work with, we rank it anyway and say where to find it.
Who Decides What We Cover
Coverage decisions are made by the editorial team alone, based on reader demand, search behaviour, market significance, and gaps in existing coverage.
We do not accept payment to cover a product or brand, and we do not decline to cover one because a brand would prefer we did not. Some of the products on this site score poorly. Some brands we cover have no commercial relationship with us at all. Both of those things are how it should be.
Brands and readers can suggest products for review by contacting us, and we do read those suggestions. A suggestion is not a commitment, and it carries no weight in how the product subsequently scores.
How We Source Facts
Every factual claim on SnusMarket should be traceable to one of the following, in descending order of preference:
In Descending Order of Preference
- Primary sources. Manufacturer specifications, official product packaging, regulatory filings, and published legislation. Where a nicotine strength or ingredient list is stated, it should come from the manufacturer or the can itself.
- Direct testing. Our own hands-on assessment, conducted under the framework described on ourHow We Test page. Anything subjective, flavour, texture, drip, burn, longevity in practice, comes from actual use, not from a brand description.
- Verified retailer data. Pricing, availability, and format information, checked at the point of publication and rechecked on our review cycle.
- Community feedback. Aggregated scores and reviews from registered members, used as a supporting signal and always identified as such.
We do not use brand marketing copy as a source for anything other than a brand’s own claims about itself, clearly attributed as such.
Where the Data Is Inconsistent
Health, Legal and Regulatory Content
Nicotine products carry real health risks, including dependence. Our coverage assumes readers are adults of legal purchase age who have already made a decision to use these products, and it is written to help them make a better-informed choice between them.
We are not medical professionals. Nothing on SnusMarket is medical advice, and we do not make health claims, harm-reduction claims, or cessation claims about any product.
Our country and state guides describe the regulatory position as we understand it at the time of writing, sourced from published legislation and official government guidance. Regulation in this category changes frequently and enforcement varies. These pages are not legal advice.
Bylines and Accountability
Every article carries a named byline linking to a contributor profile setting out that person’s background, the categories they cover, and their experience with the products in question. Where an article has been substantially updated by someone other than the original author, both are credited.
Anonymous and pseudonymous bylines are not used. Brand-supplied content is not published under a SnusMarket byline, because we do not publish brand-supplied content.
Updates and Review Cycle
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and visibly.
When a factual error is corrected, we update the page, note the correction and its date at the foot of the article, and log it. Minor fixes, typos, formatting, a broken link, are made without a note. Anything that changes the meaning, the facts, or the recommendation gets a note.
If we get something significantly wrong in a way that affected a recommendation, we say so plainly rather than quietly amending it.
To report an error, email [email protected] with CORRECTION in the subject line, the page URL, and what you believe is incorrect.
Conflicts of Interest
- Contributors are required to declare any financial interest in a brand, manufacturer, or retailer in the categories we cover. Anyone with a declared interest does not write about, test, or score products from that company.
- Contributors may not accept payment, gifts, or hospitality from brands in exchange for coverage. Product samples supplied for review are permitted, are disclosed on the review in question, and are scored using the same framework as products we purchase.
User reviews and forum contributions are the community’s own opinions, not editorial positions, and are labelled as such throughout the site.
Community content is moderated for quality, relevance, and abuse, not for sentiment. We do not remove negative reviews of products we link to, and we do not remove criticism of SnusMarket itself. Brand representatives are not permitted to post as ordinary users; accounts found doing so are removed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a brand pay to appear on SnusMarket?
No. There is no paid placement, sponsored content, or purchasable ranking on this site.
Do you let brands review articles before publication?
No. No brand sees content before it goes live, and none has the right to request changes afterwards.
Do affiliate commissions affect your rankings?
No. Commission rates are not an input into any score or ranking. We rank products we earn nothing from, and we rank products we do earn from below them where the testing supports it.
Who is accountable for the accuracy of an article?
The named author on the byline, supported by the editorial team. Every article identifies who wrote it and when it was last reviewed.
How do I report an error?
Email [email protected] with CORRECTION in the subject line, including the page URL and the specific issue.
Do you remove negative user reviews?
No. Community reviews are moderated for abuse and spam, not for whether they are complimentary.
