On! Nicotine Pouches
On! is one of the most distinctive nicotine pouch brands on the market for two reasons that have nothing to do with flavour. First, On! pouches are significantly smaller than every other mainstream brand, approximately 30% smaller than ZYN, VELO, and most European slim pouches, making them the most discreet option available from a major manufacturer. Second, the brand has just become the second nicotine pouch brand in US history to receive FDA marketing authorisation, through its On! Plus line.

On! and On! Plus are manufactured by Helix Innovations LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Altria Group, the Richmond, Virginia company behind Marlboro, Copenhagen, and Skoal. Both products are tobacco leaf-free, smoke-free, and spit-free. They sit in different format tiers and serve meaningfully different user needs, which is why this page covers them separately.
Brand History
On! was established in 2014, making it one of the earliest nicotine pouch brands, a period when the category was still largely confined to Scandinavia and not yet reaching mainstream European or American consumers. The brand originated in Sweden and was subsequently acquired by Altria Group through Helix Innovations LLC. Manufacturing takes place in both Richmond, Virginia and Sweden, giving the brand a genuinely transatlantic production footprint.
The connection to Altria matters in terms of distribution scale. Altria’s relationships with convenience store chains, gas station networks, and tobacco retail across the United States gave On! one of the fastest mainstream retail buildouts of any nicotine pouch brand, appearing in the same store networks that distribute Marlboro, Copenhagen, and Skoal. This is why On! became consistently available across American retail well before most European nicotine pouch brands had meaningful US distribution.
In December 2025, the FDA authorised six On! Plus products through a new streamlined pilot review programme, making On! Plus the second FDA-authorised nicotine pouch brand in the US after ZYN. On! Plus began wholesale deliveries for national distribution on March 16 2026, having launched regionally in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas during late 2025.
On! vs On! Plus
On! (Original)
The original On! format is a mini, dry pouch, the smallest mainstream nicotine pouch format available from any major brand, roughly 30% smaller than a standard ZYN or VELO slim pouch. Each can contains 20 pouches in a distinctive rectangular can design that is unique among the major brands. On! pouches come in seven flavours across strengths from 1.5mg to 8mg. They have not yet received FDA marketing authorisation, Altria submitted premarket tobacco product applications for 35 On! products to the FDA in May 2020, and those applications remain under review.
On! Plus
On! Plus is a different product entirely. It uses a larger slim format with a proprietary NICOSILK pouch material, a softer, more flexible material with a higher moisture content than the dry On! original. On! Plus pouches are described by Altria as offering a more comfortable fit under the lip than the standard dry format. Strengths cover 6mg and 9mg, with 12mg variants still under FDA review.
What Makes On! Different
The defining characteristic of On! original is its size. Standard nicotine pouch formats from brands like ZYN and VELO measure approximately 23mm by 8mm. On! pouches measure closer to 15-17mm, a genuinely compact difference that is immediately noticeable in use.
The practical implications are significant. A smaller pouch creates less visible lip profile, making On! virtually undetectable under the upper lip during use, useful in professional environments, on-camera situations, or any context where any visible bulge from a standard pouch would be unwelcome. The smaller size also reduces the saliva response that some users experience with larger pouches and produces a more discreet overall experience than any competing mainstream product.
The can design reinforces this discretion-first positioning. On!’s rectangular flat can is thinner and more wallet-friendly than the circular cans used by ZYN, VELO, and most other brands. The built-in disposal compartment for used pouches is present across both formats.
The trade-off of the micro-format is that the smaller pouch volume means lower total nicotine delivery per pouch at a given mg figure. Users switching from a ZYN 6mg to an On! 4mg, for example, should understand they are making a size reduction as well as a strength reduction, the effective experience may differ more than the mg numbers suggest.
On! Original Flavours and Strengths
On! Plus – Flavours and NICOSILK
On! Plus represents a deliberate repositioning of the On! brand toward a format that competes more directly with ZYN and the European slim-pouch mainstream. The NICOSILK material, Altria’s proprietary pouch technology, creates a softer, more pliable feel compared to both the dry On! original and the standard cellulose pouches used by most competing brands. The higher moisture content means faster flavour activation than a dry format, more similar to the VELO experience than to On!’s own original product.
The six FDA-authorised On! Plus products are:
On! Plus Mint 6mg: Clean, cool mint at the more accessible strength tier.
On! Plus Mint 9mg: Mint at the higher authorised strength. On! Plus Wintergreen 6mg: Traditional American wintergreen profile, 6mg.
On! Plus Wintergreen 9mg: Wintergreen at 9mg.
On! Plus Tobacco 6mg: Tobacco-flavoured unflavoured base, 6mg.
On! Plus Tobacco 9mg: Tobacco-flavoured at 9mg.
An additional eleven PMTAs were submitted to the FDA in November 2025 covering six further flavour varieties (including Raspberry Lemon and Watermelon Mint, already tested in international markets) across three strength options. These are not yet authorised for US sale. The 12mg strength variants submitted in the original PMTA are also still under FDA review.
On! Plus is available internationally in Sweden and the United Kingdom, where the product range includes additional flavours beyond the six FDA-authorised US variants.
How to Use On! Pouches
Place one On! pouch between your upper lip and gum. Given the smaller-than-standard size of the original On! format, it may sit more centrally than a larger slim pouch, either position is fine. There is no need to chew or suck the pouch. Leave it in position for up to 30 minutes. The dry format of On! original means flavour and nicotine release is more gradual than moist-format brands like VELO.
For On! Plus, the moist NICOSILK material activates more quickly, expect flavour within the first few minutes, more similar to VELO than to the original On! format.
Remove the pouch when finished and dispose of it in the built-in catch compartment in the base of the can, or in a bin. Do not swallow used pouches.
If you are new to nicotine pouches, start with On! at 2mg. The micro-format makes it one of the gentler entry points available.
On! original and ZYN are both dry-format mini pouches, making them more comparable to each other than either is to the moist slim formats of VELO or Nordic Spirit.
Size is the clearest difference. On! is measurably smaller than ZYN, 30% less pouch volume. This makes On! more discreet but also means the effective nicotine delivery per pouch is somewhat lower at the same mg figure.
Strength range favours ZYN for high-end users. ZYN extends to 13.5mg in international markets. On! original tops out at 8mg, though On! Plus reaches 9mg with 12mg pending FDA review.
Flavour variety favours ZYN. ZYN’s international range covers more than 15 flavours, while On! original has seven.
Can design is where On! is genuinely unique, the rectangular flat can is more pocket-friendly than ZYN’s circular tin.
FDA status is the same for authorised US products: ZYN and On! Plus both hold full FDA marketing authorisation. On! original products remain under FDA review.
