Best Zone X Nicotine Pouches

The brand exists because Skruf needed a pouch identity separate from its tobacco heritage. Zone X nicotine pouches carry no reference to snus in the naming or packaging, and the range is built around bold flavour concepts, Cosmic Blast, Summer Dive, Hot Beat, rather than the restrained mint-and-berry approach of Skruf’s own Super White line. The sustainability work is unusually substantial for the category, with ISCC+ certified packaging made from 90% recycled plastic.

Brand Background

Zone X comes from Skruf Snus AB, founded in Sävsjö in 2002 by Adam Gillberg and Jonas Engwall to challenge the companies then dominating Swedish snus. It worked: Skruf became the second-largest snus manufacturer in the Nordics, and today employs over 300 people with production still based in Sävsjö.

Ownership changed early. Imperial Tobacco bought 43.5% of the company in 2005 and took full ownership in 2008, and Skruf has been an Imperial Brands subsidiary since. The Skruf name survived the acquisition, as did the Knox and Smålands Brukssnus brands.

Zone X grew out of Skruf Super White, the tobacco-free line launched in Sweden and Norway in May 2018. That product was rebranded as ZoneX for the UK market in August 2019, and Zone X became a standalone brand in its own right from 2021. Both lines now run in parallel, which is why Skruf pouches and Zone X pouches can feel closely related, they share a factory and a development team.

Zone X and the American Zone Brand

If you have searched for Zone and landed on Zone X, or the reverse, here is the distinction.

Zone X is Swedish, made by Skruf, launched 2021, sold across Europe at 5mg to 11mg per pouch. Zone is American, distributed by ITG Brands, launched 2024, sold only in the US with synthetic nicotine at 3mg to 12mg.

They are not the same product, but they are not unrelated either. Skruf has been an Imperial Brands company since 2008 and ITG Brands is Imperial’s US arm, so both brands ultimately sit under the same parent. The naming overlap looks deliberate rather than coincidental, and recent Zone X products appearing as “ZONE No3” and “ZONE No5” suggest the two are being brought closer together. What has not converged is the product: different factories, different nicotine sourcing, different flavour ranges.

The New ZONE Numbered Range

Zone X products are appearing under a revised naming system that drops the X and adds a number: ZONE No3 Cool Mint Strong, ZONE No5 Cool Mint Ultra, ZONE No13 Sweet Mint Strong, ZONE No25 Berry Blast Ultra.

The number does not indicate strength. No3 and No13 both sit at 10.0mg while No5 and No25 both sit at 11.0mg, so it functions as a product code in the same way Skruf’s own snus range uses numbers like No.27 and No.57. What the numbered products do introduce is a new top tier, Ultra at 11.0mg, above the previous Extra Strong ceiling of 10.0mg.

Older ZoneX-branded cans and newer ZONE numbered cans are currently sold side by side at retailers. Expect the numbered naming to take over.

Zone X Strengths Explained

Zone X uses a five-dot scale printed on the can, though the dots track perceived intensity rather than nicotine alone, two products at the same milligram figure can carry different dot counts.

Medium
approx. 5mg
Mint Breeze Medium, Southern Breeze Medium, Dark Flow Medium
Strong
8mg to 9mg
Cold Blast Strong, Mint Breeze Strong
Extra Strong
10mg
Cold Blast, Berry Fresh, Cosmic Blast, Summer Dive, Sunset, Hot Beat
Ultra
11mg
ZONE No5 Cool Mint, ZONE No25 Berry Blast

An 11mg ceiling puts Zone X in mainstream territory. It sits above the entry-level brands but well below the high-strength specialists,White Fox Black Edition reaches around 22 to 24mg andSiberia approaches 30mg. Zone X is built for consistent daily use rather than intensity, and users established above 15mg will find the whole range too mild.

Be careful with figures quoted in milligrams per gram. Retailers commonly list Zone X at 7 to 16 mg/g, which is not comparable to the per-pouch numbers above.

The Zone X Flavour Range

Mint
The core of the brand. Cold Blast is the flagship, a sharp peppermint and menthol combination that is the coldest thing Zone X makes, available at 9mg Strong and 10mg Extra Strong. Mint Breeze is the gentler everyday alternative, balanced rather than icy, and sold at Medium and Strong. Among the numbered products, Cool Mint covers the clean mint ground at 10mg and 11mg, while Sweet Mint adds light sweetness.
Berry
Berry Fresh is the brand’s best-known non-mint product: blackcurrant and summer berries against a crisp mint base, so it reads as fresh rather than sweet. Cosmic Blast is the sweeter, rounder option, layering red berries with a vanilla note that gives it more depth than most berry pouches manage. Berry Blast Ultra takes the same territory to 11mg.
Fruit and Citrus
Summer Dive is watermelon with a saline edge that stops it reading as candy. Sunset combines blood orange, grapefruit and ginger, the most complex flavour Zone X makes and the one with no real equivalent elsewhere. Southern Breeze is peach and iced tea in a lighter Medium format, and Fuji Zing covers apple.
Unusual
Hot Beat pairs sriracha with lime, putting Zone X in the small group of brands attempting genuine heat. Dark Flow and Havana Breeze round out the range with darker, less obviously fruity profiles. Flavour availability rotates substantially by market and retailer, more so than with most brands, so a product missing from one stockist has often not been discontinued.

Pouch Feel, Format and Sustainability

Zone X uses a slim, all-white pouch built on bamboo fibre rather than the wood cellulose most competitors use. Bamboo holds moisture well, and the practical result is a soft pouch that stays comfortable through a long session without drying out or irritating the gum. Cans hold 24 pouches, above the 20-pouch standard.

The packaging is where Zone X does something few competitors match: cans carry ISCC+ certification and are made from 90% recycled plastic, with the pouch material itself biodegradable. If environmental impact factors into your buying, this is the strongest claim in the mainstream pouch category alongside LOOP’s plant-based can.

Sessions run up to about 30 minutes, shorter than the 45 minutes some moist brands deliver.

Zone X vs Skruf Super White

These are stablemates from the same factory, which makes the comparison genuinely useful rather than academic.

Skruf Super White is the more conservative line: mint-led, restrained flavours, available in Slim and Super Slim, with a strength range reaching higher than Zone X at up to around 18mg. It carries the Skruf name and appeals to users who already trust the snus brand.

Zone X is the experimental sibling. Sriracha and lime, blood orange with ginger, watermelon with salt, none of that appears in Super White. The trade-off is a lower ceiling and less consistent availability. If you want reliability and higher strength, Super White. If you want flavours nobody else is making, Zone X.

Zone X vs VELO

VELO is the mainstream benchmark and beats Zone X comfortably on distribution, range size and stock consistency. Its moist slim pouches deliver faster, and its strength ladder gives more options at both ends.

Zone X counters on flavour ambition and packaging. VELO’s range is designed for mass appeal and executed reliably; Zone X takes risks VELO’s scale does not permit. Pouch comfort is close, though the bamboo fibre gives Zone X a slight edge over long sessions.

For most buyers VELO is the practical choice. Zone X makes sense if you have worked through mainstream ranges and want something with more character, or if the sustainability credentials matter to you. Users wanting fruit-forward flavours at higher strength should look atKilla orLOOP instead, both of which push well past Zone X’s ceiling.

Who Zone X Is For

Users in the 5mg to 11mg band who want flavour variety. This is where the range lives and where it competes well.

Buyers who weigh packaging. The ISCC+ certification and 90% recycled plastic can are verifiable rather than vague, which is more than most brands offer.

Users who find dry pouches uncomfortable. The bamboo fibre construction is one of the softer options available and holds up over long sessions.

Zone X is a poor fit for anyone established above 15mg per pouch, the Ultra tier at 11mg is the ceiling and there is no plan for more. Stock availability is also the brand’s real weakness: the range rotates heavily and popular flavours disappear from retailers for long stretches. If you need to reorder the same product reliably every month,KLINT or a larger brand will frustrate you less.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes Zone X nicotine pouches?

Zone X is made by Skruf Snus AB, a Swedish company founded in Sävsjö in 2002 and the second-largest snus manufacturer in the Nordic region. Skruf has been wholly owned by Imperial Brands since 2008 and also produces Skruf, Knox and Smålands Brukssnus.

Is Zone X snus?

No. Zone X is frequently searched for as Zone X snus or ZoneX snus, but the pouches contain no tobacco leaf. They use bamboo fibre, pharmaceutical-grade nicotine and food-grade flavourings. Traditional snus is a moist tobacco product, so the two belong to separate categories despite being used the same way.

How strong are Zone X pouches?

Zone X runs from approximately 5mg per pouch at Medium up to 11mg in the Ultra tier, with Strong at 8mg to 9mg and Extra Strong at 10mg. Figures quoted as milligrams per gram, commonly 7 to 16 mg/g, are not directly comparable to per-pouch numbers.

Is Zone X the same as the Zone brand?

No. Zone X is Swedish, made by Skruf and sold in Europe. Zone is American, distributed by ITG Brands and sold only in the US with synthetic nicotine. Both companies belong to Imperial Brands, so the two brands share a parent but no formulation, factory or flavour range.

How many pouches are in a Zone X can?

Each Zone X can holds 24 pouches, four more than the 20-pouch standard used by most competing brands. The cans are ISCC+ certified and made from 90% recycled plastic, with a compartment in the lid for used pouches.

What does the number mean on ZONE No3 and No5?

The number is a product code, not a strength indicator. ZONE No3 and No13 both contain 10.0mg per pouch, while No5 and No25 both contain 11.0mg. Skruf uses the same convention across its snus range, where numbers identify products rather than rank intensity.
